So last night I went and picked up another (almost complete) 250r... mainly wanted it for the frame, but had other nice parts too...
Frame is an 87, looks to be very clean and near MINT.... but I'll let you guys break it down....
Laeger (I think) +2+1 Arms
LSR (I think) Extended axle, and stock 400ex axle
LSR Stem, not sure if it's + or not....
400 ex? hubs, spindles calipers
Stock swinger, needs a carrier
400 ex pegs heel guards (Will these even mount on a 250r?)
Spacer plate, so does that mean 86 bottom end, and 88+ top end???
Hinson basket
FMF pipe, no silencer

IF you guys can verify these things and let me know the good, bad and ugly again here, hopefully this one has more good!!

Thanks again guys, you are a wealth of knowledge on these things....

What did you pay for your 250r in parts?

the motor still has its vin # from that you can tell the year,

if first 2 numbers on the tag are

0#=85
10=86
80=87
81=88
92=89

the casting marks on the top outside of the cylinder, notice little ridges, after 86 they were smoothed out, so that would make the cylinder an 85 or 86, this along with non bridged intake

also on the cases notice the front mount, above 87 its notched out instead of more rounded out like yours (under the exhaust)

im inclined to think its a 86 bottom end with a long rod crank 87-89,with a 86 piston with 5mm spacer and a 85 top end , but you have the top off there are year marks on the sleeve at the bottom sides

Thanks guys... Anyone know if those r def. laeger arms for sure?
And what kind of ball joints do they take? Do I have to get them from laeger or can I just use oem ones?
thanks

yes those are Laeger's standard travel.. you can get the ball joints from a few places American star comes to mind, i dont remember if they are 14mm or 16mm there are also some automotive ones that fit,,, but Ive never used them

many have with no issues im sure someone will chime in on that subject and what type to get

The bottom end on 87-89 has a longer rod than the 86s. Guys use a 86 style piston and use the spacer plate with it

OP what marks are on the rod, this will tell you if its oem or another brand rod

And I'm assuming it's on the stock bore? 66 is stock on these correct?

Looking at the last pic of the frame, from the front, something looks tweaked. There's definitely been some kind of repair around the right side upper shock mount, some nasty looking welds there. I know the factory welds where always a little rough on 250R's but that's not factory.

Good catch.. didn't notice that... I'll have to look more closely at it and see if there is different paint there too....

Measure the upper a arm mounts to the lower mounts on both sides. The left side looks like its shorter. Or it could just be the angle of the camera.....
