Is there a specific reason for lowering the back end?

Going to race flat track.

That does look sick. I wish I had flat track races around me so I could lower mine and put some fat Hoosiers on it and a sway bar, it'd look sick.

I made the mistake of buying the durablue lowering kit.

It is WAY to expensive for what it is and when I actually saw how the front mount was I was like, wtf....lol.

The rear durablue link is actually pretty nice and is fully adjustable to raise or lower the rear, but they forgot to mention that it doesnt come with a bushing or a bearing so I had to make one on my own. For the price they charge for it it should have come with a new bushing/bearing.

Atleast with homemade kits, you can make one that is still worthy of hitting jumps.

I love the way the 400ex looks lowered.

Deff post pics of the brackets you made!!!!

Thanks everyone, heres how I did it. Still going to weld some crossbraces for these supports so they dont shift. but I saved about $80 doing it this way. I used 1/4 inch bar steel that I got from my local hardware store. THe nice thing about doing it this way is that I can fab it up how I want and to the exact height that I desire.

cool. its deffinatlly simple, and you could drill different holes for different heights if you wanted.

did you have to grind the bottom of the front shocks?

NO modification to the shocks at all. Just notched the brackets to accomodate. And it was very simple. Just takes time.

i think you would be better served by using some square tubing than flatbar. I suppose if you brace it enough it will work, but then you gotta rely on your welds being damn good. So much as one of the ends snaps during a race or breaks or whatever in a crash your in a world of hurt.

Yeah, you're probably right, but I must say that I am a pretty good welder. I am a senior in high school and have taken 2 full years of welding. I have built a cattle trailer and many other pieces that have held up. I guess I will just flip a coin on this one and hope for the best.

Id weld some supports in there then. Just some cross bracing and it should be plenty strong.

sketchy.

Yeah, it still needs some tweaking and supports and it will be plenty strong. same concept as a lowering kit you would buy. and this is steel too, not aluminum.

not to be that guy, but if your such a good welder you would have fabbed up a little bit better of a bracket than that.

personaly I would trust a steel piece over one of those aluminum kits they sell. and if your not really doing any jumping then you dont have nothing to worry about

I would have made a bracket like the widening kits use and I would have moved the top mount instead of the bottom.

Like this in a way. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-400ex-or-450r-Shock-Only-Widening-Kit-/170050840037?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2797d1e5e5&vxp=mtr

There will be no jumping at all. And like i previously stated, it still needs a little work before im done. Everyone has their own way of doing something, and this was the way i chose to do it. Thanks
