Hey guys... my first Honda 250r. I've restored a couple Quadracers, but never had a Honda. I've been lurking on here for a while, always wanted a 250r, and finally got one today (rattle-can special!). I know very little about them, so bear w/ me please. It runs really good, but seems to break up a little on top... mid-range pulls very strong though.

Ok, so give me the good, bad and ugly on this quad, please. I know very little about it. I see a bunch of repairs on cases, but no leaks.
Old owner said it was ported by LRD... I doubt that since there are no engravings on cyl. He also said it has 400ex a-arms and shocks. I see a lot of space in a-arm mounts?? Also, is this an 86 or 87? Thanks in advance for your help and patience!

It's an 86, you can tell by the front motor mounts, the pipe has had a mounting tab alded on the head pipe most likely because there is no spring hooks. And the front bumper isn't for that quad, but its a descent start for a project build and for a first r man. Not real bad, how much did you get it for.

Also with 400EX arms and shocks and you gotta love the zerk fitting instead of the lock bolt on the carrier:p Don't see any real damage to the cases only the usual casesaver damage.

You better check that axle lock nut, it looks like its not right. Plus it looks like the clutch cover has a few weld repairs.

Thanks for the replies guys... yes I noticed that bolt missing... The lock-nut almost looks like a dura-blue posi loc I had on my quadracer....?

Is that precision engineering I see on the front of that cylinder?

It looks like you're gonna get to know R's inside and out. Just getting all the spray paint off is going to take some disassembly. that's the best way to get to know about stuff. Take it apart and put it back together. I hope you have time on your hands. It should be fun. I hope she's sound. What I don't see is the usual cracks around the swingarm pivot ,rear seat mount, and motor mounts.(good news) If you're going to ride her alot you might want to invest in a gusset kit before the cracks start. That pipe mount should be replaced with springs. It looks like a crack is starting there. It looks like the belly pan was bolted in a wierd way. Extra holes in the frame rails?? There's an extra tab welded to the frame that looks like it might hit the chain before it hits the roller.
Like someone already said, that axle locking set up is suspect. It looks like it's from the wrong machine. Are the nuts welded together?
Sorry I don't want to be too critical. But chain mishaps suck$$$ Have fun with it. My 2cents

Thanks YT.... I appreciate it..... I want to know the goods and bads...
I went last night and picked up another parts bike as well, lol.....
THe frame on it is MINT and it has Lager (I think) +2+1 arms and LSR axle and stem... sound motor too.... so I'm not sure what I'm going to do! Just glad you guys are here to help identify parts/issues, etc....
Thanks again

Watch the crack on the left crankcase rear motor mount that was welded up. Get the head stay back on there and the lower rear motor mount bolt in. Cdi rubber mt is missing.
