Anyone know the bast gearing for a 400EX with a 440 in it? Mines stock gearing still. The 440 will be out the shop in about a week and a half far as I know stock could work fine but anyone got any opinions before it goes back together?

Stock gearing might work pretty well.

Alot of guys go with a 36 rear, and keep the 15 tooth in the front.

I use a 16/38 with my 440 and like it very much. That is about the same ratio as the 15/36. With the this I am still able to ride fast on the trail and still climb any hill. With the 15/38 I still had engine left on the top end, but the gearing was holding me back.

I'm trying to run 16-36 with my 440. I'm having trouble with my chain link though.

Was thinking about trying that ratio b4 Iwent with the 15/36, but so far this set up seems like a good compromise.

I'm running stock gearing - I was down a tooth in the front before I got my 440, but I was losing top end with my new mods - I changed it back to my stocker up front.......I don't really know enough about gearing to change it at this point! I'm running 20's in the rear (tires) - do you think stock gearing is fine for MX?

I run 15/37. 16/38 was too tall, the 440 will pull it, but not as quick as I liked. I do a lot of hill climbing and drag racing so the tall gears didn't work. The 15/37 is a good, I got a alittle more speed and still have lots f bottom. 3rd gear starts in most drags, kinda hard on the clutch but it's fast.

I hate 14 38 on the 440 at lesast. Gears are way too short.

14/38 wow thats real low with the 440, I had the 15/38 stk with the 440 and it was like having no 1st gear
