this is a video of my 2001 polaris 325 rear axle and chain.i want to find out how loose the rear alxe and chain should be.I tightined the chain as much as i could if it isnt tight enough can i cut a couple links off.also i put grease in the rear axle it had none and it made it tighter.but i was wondering if it would be loose from worn bearing.thanks for looking and appreciate the help.

your bearings are toast should always have grease in there

New bearings for sure. It's always better to replace a worn/stretched chain than to just cut links. Check the wear on the sprockets also, replace chain front and rear sprocket if worn

Yep chain is super stretched and bearings look shot. Either that or the carrier is trashed as well.

the very first quad i ever owned was a polaris trailboss 325. The bearings in the axle would go out it seems like every other week. Polaris only sells the individual bearings, NOT the assembled carriers like on a honda. IDK if i had a bad carrier or what, but no matter how much grease or time i spent on installing the bearing making sure they were tightened perfectly..they would wear out. I hope for your sake i had a dud and yours will be fine with some new bearings. They arent cheap either. Good luck!

If your bearings are shot, pull them out and look at the part number and maker. Call these people, they carry almost every brand and make and they get them from the bearing maker, not the ATV maker, so you will save about 50 to 75%. Its amazing how much the atv maker upcharges you for a set of freakin bearings.

You should be able to get the sprockets and chain in a package, a new carrier would come with new bearings. If the carrier itself is in good shape, then just do the bearings

look for a guy on ebay called sledpartsguy get your chains and sprockets in a kit from him

then remove the rear bearings and go to a bearing shop and have them match them, you should be able to re-use the carrier.

I would probably make a quick look over of the swing arm bushings. I would think that if the carrier never got grease they didnt either.
they are a PIA to replace because you have to take off the secondary clutch etc.
