Hi,

I've a 1995 TRX300FW that I acquired in an auction. The prior owner has modified the thing extensively, mostly bolt-ons. However, he (she?) has also apparently bored the cylinder and added oversized piston to increase displacement to 350±. They also added an aftermarket oil cooler, the hoses connect to the engine via fittings connected to an aftermarket oil-filter cover.

The problem is that the fittings on the filter cover prevent the use of the kick starter, so the modifier person had removed the kick-start lever. Last weekend, way back in the dingweeds by myself, battery died and I had to walk several miles back to truck, drive to get new battery & tools, walk back (dark by now) replace battery by flashlight.

I'd like to remove oil cooler altogether and use stock filter cover and have kick start available. Will modified engine overheat without cooler? I'm not going to beat on the machine, I'm an old guy and ride pretty sedately, but I don't want to fry the engine.

Thanks for your input!
