What's the deal with this oil? Everyone on this sight says it's no good, but when I ask Honda dealerships they say thats what I should run in my 400ex. Its starting to get colder here in Ohio finially so should I run 20W-50? Just thought Id ask to try and clear this up, since its time to change my oil again. HP4 10W-40 is the only oil that I have used since I bought the machine new 7 months ago. Let me know what you think!

The HP4 doesn't have the stability characteristics of todays other synthetic oils for motorcycles, not only that but it's damned expensive! I always use 20W-50 even during the winter (just make sure the bike is properly warmed up).

Two words as to why the dealer pushes the Honda oils - Profit Margin...

you hit the nail on the head.the honda oil is crap, cut and dry.it breaks down too easily,in return you have to buy more oil because you have to chance it more frequently.of course they would suggest it is best:grr

So what oil would you recommend to me and weight? I dont like Mobil 1 I saw what that did to my LT250R
Keep in mind that this machine is only 7 months old and has only had HP4 in it since new!

It made my clutch slip, and it would turn grey only after a few rides. I was told that was the oil to buy and use, but ever since I started using it is when the problems began!

IF IT WAS TURNING GRAY YOU HAD WATER LEAKING IN THE SYSTEM. I USE AMSOIL I THINK IT IS THE BEST

Buy Mobil 1 MOTORCYCLE oil from Walmart (Super V-Twin, 20W-50). Amsoil is too expensive if you change your oil regularly.

Honda makes good bikes not oil.

NOT TO EXPENSIVE WHEN YOU GET IT FROM YOUR SPONSER. GO AMSOIL ALL THE WAY NOTHING BETTER

Is there a certain weight/kind in the Amsoil that I should get? How much more is it than the HP4? Thanks I might start using it.

10w 40 or 20w 50 both work good. it is about $6 a quart i swear by it.
