View Full Version : 400ex oil tank repair HELP

Hey
I was changing my oil today and the bung or what ever you want to call it on the bottom of my oil tank snapped off . do you guys have any ideas how i could fix it with out welding it. please let me know thanks

Maaaayyyybe JB weld, but I doubt you could get that to work. More than likely gunna have to buy a new tank. Try and get a torque wrench so you don't tighten them down so much next time. It doesn't take much to get it sealed.

I have a stock ex oil tank, 30 tyd if you want it. Pm me if so. JB weld might hold but it is just a half *** fix.

i lucky have a tig welder. i tig welded mine and that was 7 years ago

I would buy a new or used tank...do you really want to trust a repair that could possibly fail and ruin your engine?

^^^^^ I agree 100%. I personally wouldn't even risk fixing the broken tank when you can easily get one in working condition from either one of the members here or Ebay. It's a simple and cheap fix.

i did this once, i cleaned the broke piece real well and used quiksteel. worked real well just watch it when you gotta drain the oil the next time lol

I used something like this before on my LTR, it was the night before a race so I didn't have much of a choice. But it held great, and shortly after the race I got the bung welded back on for $10.

Happened to me in like '04.. I had a buddy tig weld the bottom and it was good after that. Never had a problem and it had countless oil changes throughout its lifetime
