I have a cobra roller that i'm going to put a motor in for local races, If i use a cobra shifter motor i can run the 70 production class, if i go kx 65 i have to run 90 mod. Is the cobra 70 shifter a good motor? seems like a lot of people running the kx65 at nats.
The disadvantage to the cobra seems to be that there is no class except 70 mod to run it in at nats.
The big thing is he just turned 8 and has never shifted before, i don't really want him with the 90 mods, but if the kx65 is alot more reliable and has alot more power than maybe i will.

So what would you use cobra 70 shifter or kx65

The present cobra 70 motor makes its power at a much lower rpm than Kawasaki ,which makes it easier to ride for a beginner and still has the power to win as well. There is a new power valve cobra 70 coming out that should have the best of both worlds so you might want to wait and see.

I have purchased a couple of brand new KX65 engines for $800.00 each a few years back. They will keep up with most while in stock form. Parts are readily available from every kawasaki dealer in the US. My son started in the 90 mod class at 8 yrs old and I think that was one of the best things I could have done. I have also seen plenty of 70 production classes that are "no cobra" classes. 90 mod will be more recognized i think.
