I have heard that the 450r cam chain fits the 400ex and is a better chain. Anyone have first hand knowledge of this?

I know for a fact a 2002 CRF450r cam chain will fit the 400ex and is cheaper and stronger than a stock chain.

Thanks. The 400 and the 450 part numbers are identical except the middle three characters, which I believe indicate what model they are listed for, and not the exact part, however no one seems to sell them as cross fitting.
Honda East of Toledo sells one as a Honda replacement, which they claim is stronger then the original OEM, however it is half price of OEM which does not make sense.
I think I may try the one you recommend, since it seems to be tried and true. Thanks.

My fault, im down to the outter clutch basket. Was looking at the manual and it shows the primary gear holder in reference to removing the chain along with the oil pump. Working this weekend to pull the chain, piston, and cylinder.wondering if i needed other special tools in advance.

Took the rout of the 450r chain
Didnt mean to hyjack threewits post,

Only thing thats handy is to have a clutch holder tool to remove the clutch basket. You can also jamb rags in there to hold it too but the tool works better.

Also use an impact to get the nut off and on. Makes it 100x easier.

Yeah i'll just need to clutch holder tool when you re install the clutch boss.. I learned that i needed that tool the hard way after cracking a clutch boss :cuss: I just use a impact wrench when removing the clutch boss b/c it can spin it off easy.
