My son just got a 2002 400 ex

Just rebuilt it for him 440 stroker, runs awsome.

I have an oil leak coming from? it looks like a tiny freeze plug, behind the chain tensioner, on the top of the right side case. im attaching a pic to show exactly where it is seeping from.

I'm hopeing someone here can shed some light on this for me and help me figure out how to stop this seeping oil.

Thanks for your help

That looks like your crankcase breather?

Is there a rubber hose that runs from your intake boot to that breather? Im guessing it was removed or missing?

or maybe im looking at the pic wrong?

no Not a breather, my oldest son has a 400 ex, all stock, and his looks exactly like the one thats seeping oil. nothing goes there, it looks like an oil passage, with a tiny freeze plug.

Thanks for the response

I went out earlier do a few things to my 400 after reading this thread and I looked at my 400 and saw what you are talking about. It does indeed look like a freeze plug. I don't know how you would fix that other than getting a new case which is just ridiculous for such a small problem, or maybe find someone to machine a new plug or heat that one up to get it to re-seal. Very weird predicament.

For those who don't have time to look at their 400 here is a pic of mine:

Id drill a hole very carefully, using grease to try and trap the shavings. Then Id thread and tap the hole and seal it with a bolt and some rtv.

Or you could just rtv it as it is.

id mix up some jb weld and slap a small bit on there and sand it down flat and be done with it...

Well that's what I did, cleaned it up, slapped on some jb weld, and so far so good.

Thanks for all the responses.....
