So im rebuilding a motor for a friend and there is so much crap and dirt and everything else you can think of caked onto this head. I took the valves and valve springs out but I want to know the safest way of cleaning the head without eating up the aluminum but still make it look brand new like all the professional motor builders make them look. Thanks.

Here is a build thread from a guy on here who soda blasted all his motor parts and it came out looking like factory. Here is the link with pics.

an ultrasonic cleaner is the best way imo. most big engine builders have one, it gets dirt out that you never knew it had. of course you could boil it in a big pot too.

look up boiling carburetor, not sure of the solution people use to boil them, but they come out clean.

either way you want to clean with heat to break loose all the debris, and other stuff.

x 2 soda blasting. Looks great when it's done.

Some one posted my project earlier in this thread but yes, Soda Blasting is the way to go, Eastwood sell a kit for small jobs like this for only $40 that comes with a blast gun and soda media. Its plenty enough to do the whole motor and it wont etch the metal it just cleans it so it looks brand new. You'll be addicted once you try it:devil:

Yes sir that was me who posted your project cause your motor looked so damn clean and new! I just figured the soda would be a much easier way then some of the others were posting.
