If your gonna start racing XC, and you drop all your cash into a engine your gonna be mad.

DO light motor work, and then light suspension work.

35-40 HP is no good on stock shocks.

A port and polish along with CJM's signature is what I run and it is an amazing set up. The P&P is pricey but it gives the motor the extra step to beat all the others

Yep. Do a 407 or 416. My friend did a 407 and honestly its not all that much slower than my 426-if anything Im barely faster.

407 piston (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-TRX400EX-400EX-WISECO-PISTON-KIT-040-11-1-99-08-/230821355929?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35be066199)

416 piston (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-TRX400EX-400EX-WISECO-PISTON-KIT-080-11-1-99-08-/230823812083?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35be2bdbf3)

You buy the piston, then take your cylinder/jug to a machine shop and they bore it for the piston. There is no "kit" like you can buy a 440 which already comes with everything.

There isn't a "kit". You just order an 86mm (407) piston kit from ebay or somewhere. Search "Wiseco 11:1 86mm Piston Kit" on ebay and start shopping.

EDIT: CJM beat me to it with links, lol

Namura is junk. Almost everyone on here that has ran one has melted it within 1 month of having it installed. Go with Wiseco.

CJM

Yea namura is absolute garbage.

russellsroost31

well then wiseco it is

CJM

My friend used namura in a blaster and a banshee cause they were cheap. 2 hours on the banshee the 1 piston melted (why didnt the other side we dunno) and the blaster blew at like 10 hrs. No idea why, they just melted. Everything was perfect too.

I think they use cheap materials.

hey i cant afford to bore it if i just do a high comp pistion and stage 1 hot cams will i have good power and reliability still

Chances are the cylinder is already out of round. if you cant bore it dont bother installing a new piston as it might not help all too much.

You want a stage 2 hotcam with a high compression setup, stage 1 falls on its face on the upper rpms.

Bore job is like 100 bucks or less btw, least the last few Ive had done.

No matter what youll pretty much have to bore it.. even if you replace your stock piston with a 85mm wiseco, some boring or honing will more than likely be required.

I had 2 bone stock motors tore apart in my garage at the same time... mine and my buddies.

My buddies piston was too tight to fit in my cylinder and vis versa.

Just wierd like that... its true that every piston is slightly different.

the other reason i was thinkin about not big borein it is so i dont have to race with 450s i mean i know i can i just dont wanna

CJM
07-18-2012, 05:32 PM
Are they gonna measure the volume of your engine or something? Do a small overbore like 402, no ones gonna notice that if they can even check it.

russellsroost31
07-18-2012, 07:11 PM
true
for whagt i need tho i just think the big bore is to much expense when ill prob sell the bike nxt year

CJM
07-18-2012, 08:37 PM
You think your gonna sell it lol. Trust me thjese things are hard to sell.

But yea you need to bore it slightly, theres a huge chance the cylinders already done and if you got it all apart theres no reason not to do it. Imagine you dont and you gotta redo it all over?

i get what you mean but wherew do i get a cylndar my limt is 1000 and im already lookin a 500 atleast in labor and parts for my tranny

CJM
07-18-2012, 08:46 PM
Cylinders like 100 bucks for a bore job dude. You can do the rest of the work yourself, its very easy to assemble and whatnot.

Idk what your going to race, but in the GNCC sport class (400cc limit) excludes motor mods.

So you can have a 440cc 400ex and it still meets the sport class standards.

what ima do is if my cylinder is in good to ok shape ima just do a piston and cams if i need a new cylinder ima big bore it

CJM
07-19-2012, 04:50 PM
Trust me when I say this: It aint worth it to do a big bore. The smaller bores rev much faster-much better for racing.

when i say big bore i ment like a 416

Sorry man, my bad. Big bore usually refers to a 440.

FWIW Like I explained earlier, a 402 or 407 is every bit as powerful as a 416, a whole 10cc isnt gonna gain you anything. 416 might also cost more cause they gotta bore it a whole bunch of times to get to that size.

russellsroost31
07-19-2012, 06:46 PM
yea
the only thing is if i bore it i cant afford cams so ima just put a piston and cams in
