will a 08 top end of a 400ex motor fit a 04 bottom end

yes, i dont believe honda has changed a single thing on the 400ex motor except for adding reverse to the newer ones which shouldnt impact the top end fitting.

now im going to be replacing the bottom end is this somthing me and me grandpa can do
hes not an expert but he does have an idea what to do
should me and him be able to do this ourselves

if your just swapping a top end onto a complete bottom end then its not much work at all. If your talking about spliting the bottom end open and replacing the internals (Crank,bearings,gears) then its a much more involved job. Anything can be done with a manual tho!

Only difference is the 08+ topends dont use a decomp setup on the stock cams.
