I would never make the trade IMO. You can pick up 450 dirt bikes all over the place. Hang on to the 250R unless you absolutly are sold on getting a 450 bike. 450 bikes are a dime a dozen now, hang on to the 250R.

I agree with woodsman250r, you can pick up a 450 dirt bike very easy and very cheap on craiglist or anywhere for that matter. Finding a 250r that nice, probably wont....

What kind of bike should I get for a 6'3 200lb beginner?

I never ride my 250r anymore.. kinda the reason I considered the trade

Def not a 450 LOL, that is NOT a beginners bike. Truth is, probably around 95% of the public can't use all of the power on a stock 450 bike. Biggest question is what type of riding will you be doing? Do you ride trails or MX? You should consider a 250 2 stroke, which would be good for both types for your size even if you are just starting out on a bike. You can always tame it down with a flywheel weight and different gearing. Plus the motors are simple to work on, and do top end jobs. Or you may even consider a KTM 300. They have gobs of power when you want it, but will also lug down to a crawl. Unless you are a top lever racer, most people just have no need for a 450 bike. I consider a 250 or 300 two stoke to be the best all around bike to handle most types of riding.

Out with the old, in with the new. Value wise it's a pretty fair trade. I say do it

I have a few guys looking to trade up with a CR250, but wouldn't a CR250 be just as powerful as a 450f only more raw and not as broad through the rpm? I was ideally of looking for a 125 2stroke

Yah that's pretty fair and tempting, the pictures he sent me look like it's brand new still.

i agree, 250r are very hard to sell , i really struggled to give one away at a next to nothing price, ppl dont want them

those 09 yzf 450s are excellent bikes, i would do it, i assume your use to riding as the r looks setup so im sure you would handle 450 no problem, i like them way more than a 250f

Lets just stop debating this right now, and tell us what kind of riding you plan to do. That will decide the bike that is best for you. If you are riding woods, you will hate the 450 and regret trading. If you ride MX, you may tend to like a 450 after you put in a lot of seat time. If you ride wide open desert, a 450 should be a good fit. I could go on, so tell us what type of riding you do.

ive rode a yz250f and cr125. the 250fs power was gutless at first but it really smoothed out through 2nd and became stronger. the cr125 was wicked to me atleast but you couldnt chug around it seemed. it wanted to be wot, if your chugging you had to stop and pull the clutch in and rev it a few times to get it to run right

I only ride mx right now, but I wouldn't be using that bikes potential for months at least if ever. I had an IT200 when i was young and I couldnt handle it at all, that's why I bought my ex.. I'd hate to give up my 250 for something I dont enjoy

I say get this bike and if you realize that you would rather have a 250f then you won't have a problem trading that 450 for one.

Living in Ontario, I would definitely say make the trade. I had my full lonestar 250r forsale for quite awhile before I could sell it (wish I never did to be honest with you). That bike would be a far easier sell, if your thinking about unloading the 250r anyways.

My laeger hybrid was probably one of the nicest quads around and it wouldnt sell, so it got parted. Yet I know the 03 CR 250 I picked up, I could sell it tonight if I wanted too. Bikes move up here, quads dont.

So it all depends on what your intentions are. Personally I would say keep the 250r since Im a major 250r guy, but if you dont plan to keep it for the long haul, id do the trade.

Yah I saw drooled over the hybrid when I used to make a general Ontario-wide search, haha.

My brother just said he wants to buy it from me, so I don't know what's going to happen. That'd be ideal.. then I could ride it AND get a bike

Sounds like it could work out for the best. I personally plan to pick up another R down the road. Be nice to have a full laeger or lobo, and my cr. The girlfriend doesnt understand the need for toys, but then again sometimes I dont understand the need for a girlfriend haha
