Hello guys and gals!
I just bought my wife a 05 400 ex for riding in the woods and need some help with info on up grades?
It was bone stock with about 15 hours on it bought from a friend who stored it at a summer house.
onced i cleaned the cob webs off and got all the crustys out of the tank and carb we rode it and it did ok but is all stock.
So far I picked up a full yoshi exhaust
a set of jet suspension front tripple rate ZPS shocks and AC nerf bars.

I want to change the carb to a FCR would like to find a good deal on a used one but any info would be great
I think a 39mm would be best?
Dont know how to set the jetting ?
If any one on the forum has a good deal on a used one I could bolt right on give me PM.
we ride in oregon around 0-2500 ft

Thanks in advance for any help or info.

James

Would be better served with a keihin off a 450r from 04-05. MUCH easier to tune and plenty of power.

To put that keihin type carb on all you need is a plumbing fitting (or adapter a member on here makes), throttle cable, move one of the vent lines making a new hole for the line and filling in the old hole and thats it.

I had a 05 trx450 r I took the stock carb off in 07 and put a 07 fcr on it best upgrade I ever made to that bike the 04-05 trx carb is just a larger version of the 400ex carb.

The 450r carb is a huge upgrade over a stock 400ex carb. You will notice is revving ALOT faster. Its simple to install and takes a lot of the guess work out of tuning wince everyone has their specs listed online.

The reason I suggested the R carb vs the FCR is I find the FCR is a real pain to tune and every single stupid 450r with one if you stall it out doesnt want to restart-let alone start up easy on thier own. Ive tuned tons of stuff and the old style keihins work better imho.

The performance is just as good with the R carb.

ive got a yfz450 carb on mine and I dont have any problems with it. starts fine, idles great and never misses a beat. I also got a extra yfz carb with throttle cable if you might be interested, I will cut a good deal on it.
