So it looks like I'll be keeping my 400ex for a little longer than I had hoped :-/

I figured with the extra money I have saved up if I save a little more I could snatch up an old 2-stroke quad like I'd always wanted to. I'm curious which of them is the cheapest and easiest to rebuild, as well as which ones are good at what. The Trx250r is legendary and rightfully so but I know very little about the Suzuki or Kawasaki's, and while I love Banshee's we already have one and it's not a cheap fix up thanks to the twin cylinders. I'd love to get the details on some of the old 2-smokers and on that note were there any other models/brands that weren't as popular? There were so many dirt bike manufacturers during that time that I've always wondered if there was a quad or two that went under the radar. Thanks!

The old zuki quad racers were never that good, banshee as you mentioned is already outta the question, so that leave the R. Easiest to work on and build imho.

Yeah that's what I figured, they're hard to pick up for really cheap but I can probably find one. Somehow an all original, showroom condition Tecate is still over $1000 less than a beat up R around here, must go to show which one is the better performer.

That's not to say I don't respect the Tecate though, from what I've seen they just don't handle great.

The Trx250r's? I believe there's a lot of parts available and only a handful of OEM parts are discontinued.

Aftermarket still has a ton out there, more than I can get for my 400ex.

Majority of the motor parts have been discontinued by Honda, stuff is getting really hard to come by new, and if you do find it, you're going to pay top dollar.

I had the Honda and now, my LT/RM hybrid. The 87-92 LT250r was a very good quad. Faster in straight line than the Honda. Handling wasn't as good as the Honda, but waaay better than the Kaw. You can usually find the LT's for quite a bit less money than the TRX also. The reliability issues can easily and cheaply be corrected. I would buy another LT without a second thought.

im not gonna lie, blasters run reallyyyyy good with the 240 bb they just look so weird but that can be fixed with extended a arms, axle and some shocks if you were doing an mx build. ive seen some sick ones and you can pick up parts very cheap
