was riding today and all of a sudden it would skip in neutral, pop outta gear, then it just locked up in gear, wont get outta 1st gear, r these trannys known for issues

Not really, does it have enough oil in it?

About the only way to kill one of these transmissions is to continuously beat on it. I ride hard at least 100 hours a year and Ill admit I have short shifted a few times (somehow found N when looking for 2nd) and event hen its fine.

Its time to split the cases and check over everything carefully, shift drum, forks, gears, etc. Its probably the forks tho.

The weird thing is there is only 50 hours on it since new probally

Did you or someone else ride it hard, slam into gears, not use the clutch to shift, etc?

Could just be bad luck too. I mean I beat the pee outta mine and it never fails-BUT I religiously take care of the quad-my friends think Im nuts I change the oil like every 3 rides and they run all season on theres lol.

This might be a little offbase, but I think I recall my friend having this issue once, and I think it was his chain was out of adjustment and was too tight. It was binding the countershaft as the chain was pulling it towards the rear of the bike and it affected how his gears engaged. Might be worth checking.

no chain was fine, i heard it could be a shifter fork or something like that

i find myself hirring neutral looking for 2nd alot also. mines an 05 and i beat the piss outta it and never had any problems.

A common fix for a big foot is to raise the shifter up one notch on the splines.
This does make it easer to shift with big feet, but if you land on the shifter when jumping it can bend the shifter forks. I’m not sure if that’s your problem but I see it every now and then. Not just on the ex but all bikes.
