I am looking at getting a new carb. for my wifes bike.

This bike is stock with a pipe and silencer. We ride almost all dunes.

I figured I would use one of these 2 since they are almost the exact size as the stock one.

What do you guys think.

Go right to a 38 PWK.

whats your reasoning?

the 34-35mm carbs kinda choke the 250r if its got any mods done to it.

i have a stock pj carb if you want it to solve your problem.

since the bike is for my wife I want to just keep it close to stock and simple. The stock stuff just seems to fit better and require less maintenence.

Also she doesn't need the extra top end power a 38a/s would provide anyway.

I have a 36 pj on my wifes r and it works great with a Paul turner pipe and mx port job.

The 36 pj is slightly simpler to adjust than a pwk-- no need for any tools to change the needle clip or to adjust the idle speed; basically the same as stock carb.

The 35 pwk is available as air striker. AS has "fins" which concentrate air flow at small throttle openings. I have found this to improve throttle response at low rpms, which is good for technical riding. PWK carbs also have a separate idle circuit, which is a good thing; but not as easy to adjust as a PJ -- normally need to use a screwdriver.

either will fit the stock air boots easily enough. Though, by applying a little heat, they'll stretch to fit onto a 38 also.

Then just leave the stock 34 PJ on there.

The stock carb is wore out so it needs a new replacement.

Dune riding seems to be much more wide-open than other types of riding because the sand robs the horsepower, so my personal opinion would be the 38mm.

However, if you truly don't want to go that big, the Air Stryker carbs are nice, I'd probably rather go with the added throttle response of a 35A/S over the top-end horsepower of a 36.

So you guys don't think that a 38a/s would be too much on a chick bike?

I had a 36 PJ on a bike a long time ago and liked the carb. but eveyone now says they are hard to jet and a bad design.

Are they really that bad of a carb?

They are all fairly easy to jet.. But just get the 35as for the better low end response!

honestly there isn't going to be much of a difference that a girl could tell on a bike from 34-38mm as she will probably never hold it pinned anyways.

for dune riding i wouldn't use less then a 38mm unless it was a 125cc bike or something very tiny.

i personally would go with the bigger carb. 38/39 airstriker if you can get one. the price difference is not a huge leap. IMHO your girl will not know the difference. but all in all the performance gain will be better all around.

go with cheap if you dont really care. no matter what the quad will be fast enough for her. if you can get a bigger carb for not much more $ or better yet find a cheap 38/39 i would go the route.

I use a 35mm pwk on my R and am very pleased with it for woods riding. My motor is fairly stock other than a cool head running 195lbs of compression, mid range port job, cr ignition and fmf fatty pipe. I run the quad in the local hare scramble series and do quite well, doesn't give anything up to the 450's I race against.
