Guy wants to trade me his '04 Kawasaki ZX636 for my '08 YFZ. Haven't ridden the YFZ since I bought my CRF so I don't think the YFZ is going to get ridden a whole lot anymore. I would use the bike as my commuter but I'm just not sure the 636 is worth what my YFZ is. It has 32,000 miles on it but looks pretty clean. Has a receipt for a full tune up last week but prior to that obviously I have no idea how the bike was treated. My bike has a fresh rebuild with maybe 10 hours on it. New cylinder, 12.75:1 CP, HotRods rod and 5 new Ti valves.

Any input? I would love the bike but not sure...

Heck no. That's really high mileage for a bike. That bike is worth 3k and I'd say your Yfz is worth 4500

Yeah I pulled NADA value on that bike and it's only $3,100. Kind of a bummer cause I love the 636's. haha. Looks like I'll be waiting to buy one.

People always think that is a lot of miles for a bike but it really isn't. I had the same bike and put 12,000 miles on it in a year. The bike really is only going to bring about 25-3000 though. Awesome bikes, I loved mine, maybe the best bike I had out of 4 that I have owned. Those 03-04 636's are wheelie monsters, you just need to drop the forks in the triple trees about 7/8" to help with cornering.

ive been wantin a bike too, but cant decide whether to get one or not

i could buy one around 4500 cash right now, or sell/trade the ltr and get one in the 7-8k range

and it would be my first street bike, so not really sure how much i would ride it

Problem with miles like that on a bike is its not a car, its revving out to very high rpms all day long (unless you drive it like grandma..right...) and putting alot more wear than a car would get with the same miles.

Having 10k on a bike is like havin 50k on a car.

With it being your first bike you ARE going to lay it down. Period. With that in mind, I would keep it around the $4,000 mark. I didn't think I would ever lay a bike down either, but my '08 CBR600RR got laid down 3 weeks after I bought it. Ended up getting in a pinch with money so unfortunately it had to go.

Yes, I know bikes can go for quite a bit of miles as well, but the value for this trade isn't there with the bike having 32k miles. If I was paying cash, it wouldn't bother me so much.

Cruising east canyon and there was some pea gravel on the one corner. Needless to say by the time I saw it, it was to late. If you buy a sport bike don't be the idiot riding with a helmet, tshirt, jeans and converse. If you have $4,000, save up another $1,500 at least for good gear. I was wearing my 1 piece when I went down so I was only sore and a couple bruises, no road rash. I spent just under $2,000 just on gear.
