KN filter outerwear

What is the purpose of the outerwear for the KN filters? I have a 250EX and getting ready to order the filter. Winter time has arrived and I'm looking for more power for my 250. Throw any suggestions at me.

The outerwear is just a pre filter to keep some of the really tiny crap from getting into the filter and pluggin it up.
Dirt riding it really helps, sand riding..ehhh maybe..

Don't get the K&N without the outwear,,,,,I don't know why they dont' come together in a complete package..

if u order the filter its 9.99 and its worth it for the extra protection. if u wanna get alittle more power buy a outwears air box cover too...
