fastest you will get would be rmatv or motosport, and thats 3 days man.

If you know a machine shop, they could probably make you one in about 10 mins.

Aftermarket shifters, like IMS. Can get one at your house in a couple days off ebay if ya want and the folding ones wont break like the stock one.

300ex or 450R one might.

Just checked part numbers and the way they look., and a 300ex is very simliar.

a 450R part number is closer, but doesnt look anything like a 400ex one.

Either one would probably work, but if i were you, i would wanna buy the 300ex one.

Stay away from any aluminum ones, they bend very easy.

The 450r one is really straight so it wouldn't fit around the case of the 400ex. I can't say about the 300ex cause I've never had one but my 450r shifter was straight as an arrow.

What happened to your stock one? Did it break or did the splines wear out? You could just weld it back together or back on.

Splines are shot

You could tack weld it back on to the shifter shaft, but you don't want to weld too much or you'll have to replace the whole thing. Just slide the shifter on and then put 2 or 3 good tacks on the very end of it, then just grind them off when you get a new one.

That's how mine is setup, works pretty good and doesn't break.

That's what I had to do twice on my 250ex a long time ago. My dad put a bead all the way around the end of the shifter shaft and I somehow managed to break the whole weld. Man I was hard on stuff back then...

250R will not work. I know that for sure. Different sizes shaft. I've had great luck with aluminum and like the feel of them. But that's my opinion. I'm getting a pro design soon for the 400.

i wouldn't recommend welding/ tacking it on. i did this to my ims shifter when it striped out, not knowing the shaft that come out for the shifter is hardened steel. when welding to harden steel it crystallizes it. causing it be be very brittle. shortly after my shifter broke off taking the hole splined piece of shifting rod with it. so the correct way to fix it now is to split the cases and install new shifting rod. all because i was being cheep and wouldn't buy a new lever. now thinking about it the lever is much more cheeper.

but in the end i just had me dad whip me up an extension the slipped over the the broken shift rod with a quarter inch bolt through it and then it went to the stock splined diameter so a stock shifter could be put on.

moral of the story is know what your welding to. and dont get impatient and do it right the first time.
