I bought a set of new Merrell hubs on eBay that said to be for a 450r but they didn't work on my spindles. I think they are later 250R or 400ex anyone remember if they even were in buissness when the 450R came out.

how did they not work?

what spindles do you have?

do they have a step?

or are they tapered?

do the tie rod plates bolt on?

450r,400ex,89 250r use tapered spindles.
tapered spindles need a collar in between the bearings.

also between 400ex/450r hubs there is different offsets for the brake rotor.

86-87 are flat spindles same size bearings inside and outside

post some pics maybe we can help ya

correct me if I am wrong, 04/05 450r hubs don't fit 06+? But 06+ 450r hubs fit a 89 250r, this is coming from laeger when I asked them about using 06+ t-pins and brakes on my 89 t-pin. They said if I changed to 06+ 450r t-pins, I would only need to buy the brake calipers and everything else from the 89 250r would fit.

i dont have any 04-05 hubs/spindles here but the 04-05 spindles are supposed to a direct copy of 400x with different caliper mounts.

there are some different brake rotor standoffs between all the hubs though.

sorry they dont fit my 04\05 spindles they must be 89 250R because they have the tapered coller. I'll try to post a pic.

They don't slide in all the way. Home computer is down can't post pics but, the seal is recessed on the 04/05 and on the hubs the seal is all the way in the outer most part

Merrell went out of buisness before the 450 came out, not sure on all the different yrs of parts working together. Troybilt has a sticky at the top of the page to let you know what will work together.

I think mine say Merrell on the caps, and someone was selling copies of them after they went out of buisness. I will look at mine and see.

Ok. The cap is a real nice sealed and threaded. And they also have the dual outter bearing

Those hubs will work on 400ex,250r and 06 and newer 450r spindles. 04/05 spindles are not copies of 400ex.

so how are they different other then caliper mounting?

The caliper will actually mount but when you tighten everything up the hub hits the caliper when you try to turn it. The spindle shaft itself is just different.

It doesn't look like I'll be using them. If someone wants to make a offer I'm open for one. Let me know what kind of spindle you are lookin to put them on and I'll check the fit before shipping.

I paid around $175 -200 per set plus shipping on a couple sets of new merrell hubs back in 2009 FYI

That's what I was thinking. If anyone wants them $175 plus shipping.
