I am looking to buy a slip-on, add a K&N with outerwears, remove the airbox lid, and re-jet, pretty much the basic stuff. Its on a 2002 400EX, all stock. I pretty much have my choices down to a FMF PowerCore4, or a WB S-bend slip-on. I have read that the 400's dont respond as well as other bikes to simple exhaust mods, but with the intake mods as well, will there be much of a noticeable diff, other than sound? How about the choice in pipes?
Thanks to everyone in advance who respond...

Go for the White Brothers. It has won numerous pipe shootouts.
Putting a filter and the pipe will boost the power to where you can notice it. Also you can put a WB rev limiter on it to help as well.

Personally i dont recommend the CDI boxes. But I highly recommend the WB E-series s bend. I have it and a sparks air filter and mine hauls ***** over stock. My best friend has a stock 400 and were were ridin down the road in front of his house and i blew his away at 3/4 throttle, he said he was wide open. I noticed a massive gain with the air filter and pipe. Dirt Wheels doesnt know anything, i thought mine responded great to the pipe and airfilter and correct jetting. GO E-SERIES!!:macho

I would also recommend a foam filter over a K&N. The k&n is known to let dust through if you dont run it with an outerware and when you put the outerware on it makes it just as restrictive as stock. so go with a Uni or Sparks.;)

I have the FMF on mine with a Uni Filter--works great! Pretty much anything over stock will show improvements

check out the FMF Titanium 4 silencer. I am pretty sure it is one of the lightest pipes on the market and it gives you lots of power over stock. I have it and just put on a powerbomb header today and my quad runs way better than stock. I also have a 155 main jet and a stock pilot with a KN filter. But you will be able to tell a huge difference over stock in my opinion.

I run the the e-series with extra discs it pulls hard and spanks z 400's. plus the e-series looks sweat polished

I got the FMF Powercore 4 with Powerbomb Header and I like the sound better than the white brothers. I never really liked white brothers. And any 400 with a pipe and filter will spank z400's. The white brothers and the FMF add about the same amount of power. So it's a question of which you like best.

you say an exhaust change will spank a z 400?
i like the 400ex but i have a z and it does not get spanked. with the right mads you can be competative but you wont spank anything

Everything I've read says the E-series is quite a bit better than the FMF. As a matter of fact the FMF was pretty much at the bottom of the list. So I bought one and I'm very happy with it especially after rejetting.

I got the WB slip on and a K&N with outerwear and I love it. It has won all the shootouts for 400ex that I have seen. When I put mine on after rejetting it was crisp and more peppy in the low and mid then before install.

I have the WB E-Series. I love the sound it makes. I am going to re-jet tomorrow, it needs it badly. I also have ground and polished the welds in my stock headpipes.

You'll find the biggest power increase with a engine builders pipe. Sparks, LRD, ect. . . But between FMF of White Bros. I'd choose the Whits Bros.

wh ile we are on this fmf vs. whitebros....I am curently running a full DG exhaust. I was wondering if i can run the FMF titanium 4 and make a custom conecting pipe. MY DG silencer is so damn heavy, and ugly to top it off. That titanium 4 in blue anodized looks sweet. So can i do it? i noticed in rockymountain atv that they sell just the silencer in 14" and 17". so can i do it? or no. I have a 300ex, and they dont sell it for this application, what do i do?

why would you say neither? The white bro's e series is a good price and lots of power. Thats what I have.

i recomend gettiong a full engine builders exhaust............but if you are gonna get a slip on get teh e series, fmf doesnt make good 4 stroke exhausts(besides there powerbomb header). you will see a little difference in low end. and maybe a little on top too....but mostly the power just hits harder. its there when you punch the throttle.............

LRD is really good for moded 400ex WB MAY win for stocker but LRD rocks on moded unit. THey are also good for resale when you get your 450ex ;)
