50cc clutch question in Iowa

We have an old 2006 drr 50. Our little guy of 6 wants to race at the fair next weekend and I have a clutch ( I think) issue.
We have a 18/ 28 gear on it with 18_6.50_ 8 tire on the rear and it takes off great once out of 10 times. The rest of the time it breaks up like it its reving to high. The clutch doesnt seem to hit hard.
It also seems like its breaking up at high rpm.

Another question is " How do I know what clutch springs and rollers I need"

try replacing the torsion spring in the clutch.

call one of the advertising shops here and freshen up your cvt
clutch shoe springs
torsion spring
rollers weights
belt
they can tell you what you need to fit the level of performance your machine has

The breaking up sounds like a jetting issue or a coil issue, but sounds more like jetting. Put the quad on a stand rev. bike if it is still breaking up then it most likely jetting, to rich try going down on the main jet or turn the air mixture screw out a turn or two and see if it gets better.

also your gearing sounds very high. need to know what gear ratio you have in the transmission. but 19 front 34,35,36,37,38 gears is what most people run in mx racing with a standard low speed trasmission which is 31,11 or 9-1 ratio which means how many times your clutch bell turns to one full turn of the front gear.

I tried GForce and Hetrick today, so no go on parts. I will try to see what the carb looks like to night but I have no other jets as of now. Then again, thats what I get for waiting till one week before we race.

I stand corrected, we have a 19 front and 35 rear. We took the front apart and found the rollers are turning and not rolling. The rear torx spring is orange and the shoe springs white. Does that mean anything?

What is a good gearing starting point for a DRR 70 running hare scambles?
