You got an awesome deal! Congrats! Clean her up and maybe pick up a new chain and you'll be good to go!

I think you'll still find your 400 fun though! Somehow I switched from a high compression Yfz450 to a 400 sooooo you never know hahahaha.

450s are nice but the arent really that fast, my 440 hangs with camd, carbd, ported, piped, 450rs all day long.

They are REALLY smooth and with all those suspension parts you really did steal that quad $3000.

450r's with big bores, aggressive cam's and aggressive porting are REAL beast's and FAST as hell.

IMO, and it is just my opinion, 4 strokes in the MX world are almost garbage, they are just way to heavy and not as powerful as a 2stroke motor in the upper rpms. A stock 450r motor has about 40hp depending on what year it is, a cr125r also has about 40hp stock and is less then half the weight of a 450r motor.

So, IMO a 450r with a cr125 or a cr250 motor on a mx track would be the best choice over a 4 stroke for mx racing. If it handles great and is crazy fast now, just imagine if it were 50 pounds lighter.

REALLY nice quad though, $3000 is a steal for sure.

Bah 2 strokes are nice but you can get good numbers out of that 450 with with a bit of head work. You dont need anymore than low 50s, even that's a handful compared to the ex.

Especially with that caliber of suspension, you won't notice the extra weight of a 4t motor, especially coming off an ex.

Sick deal stickman, get some action shots now :)

Put a CR125R engine in a 450R chassis and it will put down about 33 - 35hp. It also wouldn't be anywhere near as responsive as it was in the bike it came from. That engine just doesn't have enough torque to cope with the added weight/traction.

Look at the XR400R's and a 400EX. Basically the same engine. The stock XR makes 30-35 hp typically on a dyno and the EX makes about 24-28 stock on that same dyno. Basically the same top end. The only differences being the cam (XR is slightly more aggressive), compression (XR has 9.3:1 EX is 9.1:1) and carb (EX is 38mm XR is 36mm).

It would be like taking a Honda S2000 engine and putting it into a 1500 class pickup. It would move but it would be hating life the entire time.

I love 2 stroke quads but when I had mine it didn't havethe get up and go I needed. In arenacross they don't have enough torque to come out of corners and hit jumps and they're a handful in huge sand rollers. Now if they had the new technology on them it may give them more low-end and overall torque. Personally if you like a 2 stroke feel get a yfz, that motor hit just as hard as our banshee did.

Maaaan this reminds me of when I bought my 400ex, I was gonna buy a trx450 that was the sickest thing you've ever seen.. I'll list off the work I remember it had, 480 bore kit, lots of head work, stage 2 hotcam, fcr carb, 12.5:1, graphics, elkas, lonestar +2 arms, durablue +2 axle, razr 2s all around. This thing was sick and was only like 3500, but I just had to have reverse haha.. Man have fun with that thing it looks so sick!
