My buddy was changing his clutch cable and stripped one of the two bolts on the case that holds the cable (where you adjust the clutch on the motor). Its the one closer to the back of the bike. Instead of tapping it out, I suggested he use a heli coil or time sert.
Does anyone know if that hole just bottoms out or does it go through to the inside? Its an 08er just to be clear. We want to make sure no shavings will fall into the motor when doing this repair.

how long is the bolt? its been a few months since i had mine apart. if you can pull the stator cover off tap it to a 1/4 fine thread. just be sure to put a rag over everything. im sure you can be plenty enough careful and not get shavings in the motor that way. buy a gasket and tap for around 20 bucks plus oil and filter and ride ride ride

Of course pull the stator cover, we were more wondering about the bottom of the hole. Not worried about shaving up front

dont tap it to 1/4 cause if that strips your screwed. im not sure if that bolt bottoms or not but if you cant find out ive drilled holes that dont bottom out that go inside by useing some wheel bearing grease on the bit and tap it will catch all the shavings and you can wipe it off when its full.

from my experience time serts hold up a lot better than HeliCoils expeciall in aluminum. Thats the route i would go. Should be pretty easy.

it bottoms out, it doesnt go into the actual motor so dont worry about shavings in the hole. time sert is definitely better then helicoil but for the amount of times that bolt needs to be removed you should be fine with a helicoil

just for your fyi, if the bolt doesnt have a sealing washing(copper washer) on it, it isnt a hole that goes into engine. any bolt that has oil behind will have a sealing washer

That is really good to know. Thanks again! I love getting these things mapped out in my head. Always learning something
