Does anybody know of a lap timing system that works pretty good?? I'm looking for something I can take to any track and set up to get my lap times. I guess it would have to work like a transponder; something on the quad and something on the side of the track somewhere. I think that in the Dustin Wimmer segment in the "Atv Movie" he mentions he uses some sort of system but not to sure. Well if anybody know of something please let me know.

Check these guys out, this might be what you're looking for. Any transponder type system will be pricey though.

Probably the best thing on the market is AIM's Solo. It has a full GPS tracking system to map out each track and check time intervals from any point on the track.

Not cheap, but if you feel you lack in a particular area on a track (whoops or tight corners) this may be the thing to get. It's a really nice unit too.

That only works for one lap unless you are using multiple stopwatches. Plus once a rider gets consistent there is only a second or two (sometimes less) in difference between laps. There's too much human error to get accurate enough to time laps well (stopwatch method). At least in my opinion.

i usally do 3 or 4 good laps then test my time after i know i got it locked down, if the person on the stop watch stops at the same spot every time then you wont be off if you are maybe a seconed or 2 at the most

When I raced karts I had a mychron 3 tach that you can mount anywhere you want to. It'll tell you the temperature and rpms. The mychron 4 has been out for a while and has a few different features. I think for about 3 or 4 hundred you can get a tach and a beacon. Hands down the best lap timing device I've ever seen.

Don't mean to get too picky but this is why being off by one or two seconds using the stopwatch method is a problem.

When your lap times are this consistent like the top 4 riders, you need something much more accurate to know how your lap times are looking.

You can be really close with a stop watch. I mean within .10 of a second. Get someone to click off the laps from the same spot every time and it will be close. Or spend the money on a good scoring system like the aim stuff and don't have to worry about it.
