I bought a 400ex carb to put on my 300. Right after I got it I ran out of time to work on it so it set ing the box for a while. I finally got some free time and started on it again and realized the carb was missing the air cut off valve.

From what I have been reading all it does is richen the a/f mixture on deceleration to keep it from popping and backfiring.

In all the searching I have done I have found people that say they have bypassed this part but nothing on what they did to do it. I was thinking of siliconing the passages that it uses but I am not sure if that would work or not.

The question I have has anyone bypassed this or just got rid of it completely. If so how did you do it. The other question I have is does anyone see any problems with my idea that I might not have thought about.

I would appreciate any ideas y'all have to get around this, I don't want to have to buy it just the valve alone is 65 bucks.

Thanks in advance for all the help. Sorry the post is so long.

I don't want to sound stupid but what is the air cuttoff valve? Are you talking about the choke?

Believe me I never was that good with carbs but I have installed many 400ex carbs on 300ex's and never had to bypass anything.

The air cut off valve is on the side of the carb under the black plastic cover on the throttle cable side. From what I have read on the net, all it does is richen the mixture when you let off the throttle. It is suppose to keep it from popping and backfiring.

Normally you don't have to bypass anything, but mine is missing. I don't want to have to pay the 60-100$ to get a new one and get it right. Sorry I'm cheap.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask I need help getting it figured out.
