I went riding the other day and left my 400 sitting for about a week afterwards. I noticed a tiny puddle of oil under the oil tank. I've retightened the drain plug but it won't leak any until I ride. I can clean it and let it sit for a week and no trouble but of I ride it'll leak by the next day. Has anyone had this problem.

I haven't had this problem but oil does flow/leak better when it is hot. So if it only does it when the oil is hot there must be a tiny crack or break somewhere in the tank or it could be the fittings. If you need a new tank go with the CFM oil tank there are great.

I think it has to deal with where the hilt goes in the bottom. It's always built up on the head of the bolt dripping.

Mines a 440 so I take it an oversized one is the way to go. And is there a way I can tell for certain its cracked maybe take it off and look for a crack.

I had the same problem, so I bought a O-ring kit and put a O-ring on the oil drain bolt and it solved the problem.

I ran a 440 for years with no heat or oil issues using stock components.

Ya universal is fine, youll have to change it with every oil change just to keep it sealed and safe.

I ran universal for awhile then switched to a better one designed for heat and oil, lasts a lil longer.
