The youth ages overlap for the 50, 70 and 90 class.
If a kid is 8 he can ride all 3 classes.
The AMA rule book says if a rider moves up he can not ride the lower class. I can see a kid riding the 50 and 70 classes or the 70 and 90 classes but is it ok for a kid to race in the 50 and 90 class?

Those rules apply more so for if a kid has a mid season birthday from our discussions about it. Say if your son turned 12 mid season and you advanced into a class from 8-11 to 12-15 you couldn't come back.

Yeah the rules don't really apply to the 50, 70 and 90 class. but it just doesn't seem right for a kid to race in the 50 class and 90 class at the same event.

I see your point, but its allowed by the ruling. I don't agree it acceptable, and see it as a matter of preference, but if a kid whos capable of running the 90 class wants to come beat up the little guys on 50s then so be it..... great life lessons huh!! lol

It is legal and has been happening at the nationals. The ones that have been doing it have not won the 50 class. There aren't many 8 year old kids that can run up front in the 90 class. It is not like they are running the 90 engine in the 50 class. As long as they are the appropriate age and on the proper size machine for the class, I dont see an issue. Even the dirtbike rules allow an 8 year old to race a 50, 65, and 85.
