I am 15 turning 16 in may and I am gonna get a quad in spring. I used to ride dirtbikes so I know how to clutch and stuff. It will be my first quad though. I used to have a kx80. Well I am getting a quad soon, and I will buy something used. I want a 4 stroke and something for the track and trails. I am kind of on a budget. I really don't want my dad spending over 3000 for a used quad. So what are my options.

The only possible one there would be a 400ex. But it's like you can't touch one for less than 3500. And I really don't want to go over 3000. The z 400 and cannondale are way too much$$$$$$$$$. Plus it will be my first quad. What about a nice 300ex for like 2700 and spend 300-350 or something on works shocks. thats what i am thinking. Because my dad doesn't want me to ride illegally because some guy got the crap kicked out of him by the cops in my riding area. (Helmatta)So i will ride at the practice track in englishtown, nj or on my dads friends property.

how tall are you nd what kind are rider are you?

i would go with a 250x (one before a 300ex), 300ex, a used 400ex but i don't think you can get anything very good for that much, ummmm what else is there, there also yamaha's i guesss:eek:

I started off the same way as you, I was tired of getting injured on bikes (yz80) and got a quad and didn't want to get all the way in and buy a 400ex or banshee and at the end of the year my skill level was wayy past what the blaster was capable of to the point where it wasn't even fun to ride and then I sold it a year later at a 1000 dollar loss and bought a 400ex anyways.:( It would of been much cheaper in the long run if I would of just got the ex. Thats what i'd recommend but if I couldn't get the 400 i'd get the 300, theres lots of mods for it and its a well rounded machine. My friend has a 250x and when i rode the blaster we use to trade because I liked the way his handled and rode a lot more than mine.

Well at the moment I am 5'4 and 120Ibs. But I am 15 turning 16 and I am growing really quick. But I have pretty small parents. My mom is 5'3 and my dad is 5'9 so I don't expect to get much taller than that. When I rode my kx80 I was a pretty mild rider. I like to be aggressive at times but at other times just like to cruise and have fun. But I want enough power to let me have a great time when I let it rip. I like doing wheelies and donuts so a light front end is needed. Thats why I sort of ruled out the warrior. Knowing that what quad do you think I should look into.

Plus I have seen some really nice deals on 250x's but they stopped making them in 92 and it is pretty old. I wanted like a 94-03

My cuzin has a 300ex. works front shocks. 400ex aarms extended like 2 inches and the axle extended 2 inches and swingarm 2 inches i think the axle is laegers and i kno the swing arm is and it has a dg pipe. awesome fourwheeler in my opinion. i think it is still for sale i could talk to him but it depends on where you live with shiippin and ****.

oh ye it has nerf bars and dg bumper and prolly some other stuf? im not positive but it is very trick.

Also, what I like about the 300ex is that you could swap 400ex parts into the 300. If you guys can give me any opinions about the 300ex can you please post. This would really help me out. See ya!

the 250X is the same bike... it just has a kick start instead of electric... so the 250x is pretty much a 300ex for the most part, I'm 5'6" 98 lbs and im an aggressive rider... the X does fairly well on the track especially since i havent had it too long.

Get a 400EX as cheap as you can, like a bone stock 99 then fix it up from there. You will be better off in the long run...

still bro I can't find one for under 3500 and I don't want to go over 3000. And I don't want to wait any longer and wait for the new quads to come out which would lower the 400ex's value even more.So basically, I'm stuck. But I think a 300ex would be fine.

Like I said I want a 4 stroke. A 2 stroke is just too much maintance, especially a banshee. I had a kx80, I had to have it rebuilt and it was a long stressful situation with lots of money dumped into it and problems still kept coming. So i will stay away from 2 stroke. Plus it will be my first quad and I don't want to kill myself that QUICK!

Ba patient, and find a deal on a 400ex. they are out there. My friend sold his '00 440 last summer for $2800, and it had a lot of extras. just be ready to jump on it when you find it. You won't regret it.

quad rider, where did you hear that some guy got the crap kicked out of him. I ride in helmetta and mainly ride a street legal xr250, I usually ride with a few people who have a banchee, 400ex, ds650. I heard the rangers have been out there and its impassable to get to most of the trails from the tracks(stream overflowed and good old Mr.smith put big dirt mounds to try and stop us. I spoke to him once(not by choice) and he was nice to me, he told me to tell people to stay away from his house, not to throw beer bottle in his dirt mounds and stay off of the mounds.

I ride with a xr650, cr 500 , kx125 and a 400ex and saw a kid with a banshee. Do you know Rodger????? Anyway, my mom was at 7 eleven and a guy came in with a Kawasaki and the guy next to my mom said he was out running the cops for like an hour, fell off the bike and the cops humbled him. The cops told him to leave and they would get strict about who rides back there. ( Snuffmill) Thats what my mom told me, so I really am just gonna ride at englishtown and my dads friends house.

You won't be dissapointed with the 300ex. It is an excellent trail machine and it is alright on the track with a few modifications. The 300 is a good quad for someone on a budget and it has reverse.

Sorry man I wouldn't like the mojave. That quad is a Kawi. Anyway, I am going for a used 300ex in good condition for 2600. I am starting to look around. But I think I will get regular handlebars and shave the fenders. Also works shocks or 400ex shocks and a-arms, white bros pipe, k&n filter, graphics, powdercoated frame, longer swingarm. (this is in time).
If you have pics of some tricked out 300ex's or ideas for me please reply.

I drove by smuff's today and saw a ton of poeple riding in plain sight. my old parking spot is all dirt mounds now(behind tarantinos, right next to the old building), and I saw a cop sitting on the dead end street that I usaully park along(there is a small parking lot there,if you know the people) and people usually park on the shoulder, but didn't want to chance riding down the rode and going through the trail at the begining of mr. smiths driveway. So, I couldn't go riding there today. I wanted to open up my recently rebuilt 250r on the field. I know how it is to rebuilt 2 strokes, my 250r blew up twice since I bought it in 10/01, I had the brakes rebuilt, new shocks, steering stem, chain/sprockets/ all bearings, frame repaired, and it still needs some small things, they are money pits. I'd buy a 400ex, they are great bikes and need almost no maintence(not like a 2 stroke). A friend of mine was at the deli in e.brunswick and a cop was there and made him push the quad untill he got off the trail along the powerline(almost 1/2 mile). I'm sure you know how to get out there from the turnpike pit right? ever been out to the powerstation and the lake in e. brunswick. If you don't you're missing something its a nice ride. I don't know roger, but I do know emilio, dan, kneel, the huleki brothers, mike metz, randy, barberino brothers and a few more people out there.

also I forgot, my trike blew up soon after my quad too, there a pain, but won't get rid of them. In a few weeks I'll be back out there with the xr250, now a 280 with a tom of motor mods.
