I have been having trouble getting my 440 to start and run properly. If I remove the air filter it starts right up and runs great. With the air filter on, it doesn't want to start at all you end up killing the battery and having to jump it, it back fires when your trying to start it occasionally too. Once it does start it idles fine and runs ok up to about 1/8th throttle after that it just spits and sputters and hesitates. Take the filter off and it fires right up and runs great..... So is the filter the problem or my jetting? Plug looks rich.

sounds rich on the pilot maybe.

what do you have in there now?

I dont actually oil my filters, I spray it with silicone spray before I ride, thats all it needs.

I can't remember what size the pilot is, main is a 180. This is a problem that just came up I have rode it with the current jetting and it was fine.

ya maybe to much oil on the filter is just putting you over the edge of rich jetting.

try cleaning it off and using less oil and see if you can get back up and running.

maybe your a/f screw got turned from vibes or something and your running rich.
