View Full Version : My Lobo Build

Picked this up about a year ago, finally getting started. Just picked up everything from the powdecoater tonight, it looks great I think. Plus, I had the chrome redone. It's going to be a slower build, only missing shocks. Glad I didn't sell it last fall. Enjoy!

Here is when I picked the bike up, it had 4 layers of paint/coating on it and the chrome looked horrible.

PinitATV fixed my subframe and turned a new support out of solid stock.

He also added a flag mount for me, thanks Jody!

I still have the green plastics, with same graphics. I have a new seat and quadtech seat cover, I'm undecided on the plastics at this point, thinking a set of silver fullbores would be nice, even white. Who knows...

I agree, had a nice conversation with Mike yesterday he has work coming out of his ears which is good. He finally hired a sandblaster so he can focus on coating. He is meticulous, which is nice in his line of work.

Thanks. The color is NIC Lollipop Blue over NIC Alien Silver. I need to take it in sunlight and snap some pics. Here is one my coater sent me in sunlight.

Thanks Wayne and Doug! I already had some blue/black parts, so I wanted to carry out the same theme. I was going to do white again, but remember how much of a pain it was with oils, etc. The blue is really growing on me, I think my coater did a great job. Hopefully, I will be able to work some more on it this weekend. The radiator was a bear to work with in this frame, had to grind the bottom posts some and will need a new cap as the knobs on the PWR cap hits the frame rails.

Mony25
05-24-2012, 11:55 AM
Yes the rads in these frames are a bare very very tight. I don't think you will find a rad cap that don't hit the frame the best one I had was oem and it still rub pretty hard. I ended up cutting the ear off my cap so it was easier to get on and off. If you find a cap that works I would love to know what it is. Looking great so far.

danhung11
05-24-2012, 08:40 PM
As far as the radiator cap, I was thinking something like this. I want to think they are universal, but cannot confirm. I emailed the retailer to see if I could get some measurements, but they are only $10 and will probably pick one up or cut the ears off the current one.

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/High-Pressure-Radiator-Cap-22-24-Lbs,12995.html

I was able to spend a few more hours in the garage tonight and was able to assemble the front end. I also re-zinced all my hardware for $25 minimum charge. The place I took it to was $0.25/lbs, all I had was 40lbs.

Yes, that's the motor I plan to run in this. I am switching it over to a CR ignition, and hopefully sending it out for more port work and a fresh top end. If it's not enough, I've been looking at those CPI top ends. That thread that Burns started has my attention...

The Sphynx is a bruitis. I still dont have it dialed in yet and its an animal. Currently getting my dome recut because the squish isnt close enough, so its going to make even more power yet.

I also had to order a 15T front sprocket for it. Something about pulling 4th gear wheelies on the MX track with 14/37 gearing didnt make sense. HAHA...

Dan, that is one fine looking machine. That is the color im painting my Laeger when i redo it in a year or two. Its the same color as my last frame and is amazing in person.

Nice build man... And nice shocks. Axis all the way.

Yes, the Goldspeeds are a quality tire. I'd probably request a hard compound if they are available for something with weight to it. These are a medium compound and they feel soft to the touch - more spongy than anything.

It's close, had a few hiccups. Still need to take the front end apart due to clearance issues with the king pins. I've ordered three sets from a few companies, and decided to just reuse the old ones with new hardware. This bike should be done in about a month, hopefully. Aside from that, the kids have been keeping me busy and I haven't made it out in the garage much.
