Greetings everyone! Kinda new to this forum though i do a lot of lurking lol. I got my 400 about a month ago and ive been trying to get it right in my spare time. I discovered today that my header has a pretty big crack in the most common place right next to the heat shield bracket. Has anyone tried to tig weld this thing back together? Also ive been trying to get the jetting dialed in; would this affect the jetting process?

An exhaust leak is gonna make jetting tough. Id either fix yours or buy a used one off ebay, they are less than 100 bucks usually.

Ok thanks for the input.

The crack...

I had a friend tig weld it so its fixed unless the weld cracks for some reason. I was also thinking about coating it with high temp stuff and doing header wrap too... Does anyone have experience with this? how long does it hold up?

I've seen them go on CL for around 30 bucks, just find the right guy selling a bunch of stock parts and they normally let it go for nothing.

I think Pappy can fix that if you send it to him.

Prolly be cheaper to buy a different one though, IDK.

I couldnt give my dang Stock header away. And now that i dont have an extra one, i find someone who needs it

haha. But yea i think Pappy can fix that if you sweet talk him :D

The high temp paint works pretty good and easy to touch up if it gets scratched. I have run the header wrap on many street bikes but not atvs but im sure it would work fine. If you decide to use the header wrap make sure to soke the wrap in a bucket of just water for 20 to 30 min before you wrap the pipes makes it much easier to wrap when its really wet
