Hi,
I have a bumper that is powdercoated gloss black, which now looks pretty bad after racing as the powdercoat is chipping off etc.

I want to remove the powdercoating and return the bumper to a bare aluminium sort of finish and I want to know what works.

Will a simple sand blasting work or is there a better way?

Sand blasting is the best way to remove the powder

Sandblasting is easy if you have access to one. If not, aircraft stripper works really well. You buy it in cans at Wal-mart. Just be sure to wear gloves when using it.

I think if you sanblast it it will have a pitted look to it, though you could probably clear-coat it or something

Maybe somebody can clear this up, A PC guy in my area said that you can re-apply on top of existing PC if you can get a ground on the part, any truth to this?

Yes you can. Scuff it good with sandpaper and shoot it. You will need to ground it good to get the powder to draw to it. I like to preheat to about 150 degrees on the second coat.
