I want to run something like tire foam or tire balls. I just don't want to spend big money for tire balls. What are some good alternatives? I race desert and flats aren't fun 30 miles out on a 60 mile loop.

I remember seeing a while back someone actually had the same question.

Someone bought some balls from walmart that are meant for kids and have those disney or cartoon designs on them.
I believe they said they worked too!!

They're called Hedstrom playground balls. BNR racing has the hook-up on them and it sure beats going to 5 different walmarts to get enough of them for a set of tires. Keep your eyes peeled on tireballs though. I got my last set pretty cheap.

I've heard some people using pool noodles instead of tire balls.

I have never run them only heard via the grape vine.

Pool noodles break down extremely fast and aren't worth the trouble.

I have pool noodles in my front tires. I wouldn't want to run a whole race on just the noodles, but if you get a flat, they will keep you from trashing a wheel trying to get back to the pits. Some people say they turn to powder fast, others say they last for a long time. I guess it depends on the type of noodle?

I wanted to try the wal-mart balls, but I did my fronts with noodles for $9.

x2 on pool noodles. you can leave them in pretty good size chunks and they don't turn to powder that fast. I ran an entire 1.5 hour race with a flat rear (it wouldn't hold air prior to the race). The pool noodles held my tire up the whole time with no damage to the sidewalls or wheels.
