Hello im trying to get my old 300ex to 30 hp or as close as i can for that matter. Im looking into a web cam, at least a 11.5 compression piston, carb, oversized valves, crank, port and polish, pipe, and the ole trusty rev box. does anyone have any ideas if this will be enough or what tips can help? Thanks

I dont need a 400ex. I got a 450r pushing 68 on the ground. I just want a bad 300ex. plus i owe it to her, after all she was my first sport quad :D

Try Dave at East coast atv. Tell him what you want and he can help you out.

Curtis sparks makes alot for the 300ex, carb, cam, valves, pipe and rev box. there are a few pistons available as well. It also depends on what you want to spend and how reliable you want the quad to be. There are a few things you need to consider, What are you going to do with the quad? Are you going to race mx or gncc? Walsh makes an oil cooler for the 300, you will need one if you want that kind of power. The down side to building air cooled quads is keeping them cool, You can build tons of power but what good is it if it over heats after 30 minutes of racing. I made that mistake last year with the raptor 125, had to rebuild the motor it seemed after every race because of heat, waste of money. For the record I did not use Dave last year with the raptor.

30hp is doable.

look into the following:

+3 intake vale
+2 exhaust

Web Cam 240 grind

Hardened rockers: powroll racing does this for a decent price

Valve springs/shortened guides

port/polish

Pipe

high compression piston

I have ran various size motors over the years ranging from the standard bore 250 to 406 big bore/stroker.

I think the best all around set-up I had was using Web Cam 236 grind, powroll racing stroker kit, 11:1 compression JE piston, +1 intake, port/polish. This was one of the most reliable setups i had out of the bunch.

So I got Ahold of east coast and sparks today. Looks like prolly about 1000 for what I need. I'm not going to pay that. I can do it all my self other than the porting. So I'll prolly send my head to east coast and have him ship all the rest of the parts back when he is done with that. Thanks guys!

I'm gonna post a build thread soon so keep an eye out.

Yea it's a 300ex, but it's fun!

30 should be easy especially with the 4 valve head

call joel janssen at Janssen Motorsports. His record speaks for itself in that class.

I have a 300ex with plus 30hp. It can be done but it does cost alot of money. You are better to get the 330 kit. It doesn't cost alot of money.Works great and runs like cat dipped in gas!!!

Here's what I used. Web stage3 cam and hardened rockers,330 kit,Kibble White +3 valves,400ex carb,lLooney Tuned Exhaust,Ported and poloshed head and intake. The intake is very restrictive.11.5/1 JE piston.
This quad will smoke any piped 400ex with mild work.Has the throphys from dirt drags to prove it.
