who REALLY knows honda?

I'm working on a Rancher (trx)350 for a customer. He blew the motor and sent hundreds of shavings into the bottom end..,. I found a complete motor for him and just need to know if an 06 rancher motor will work in an 01 rancher? they are both ES's if it matters.
