Looking to upgrade the carb on my sons 09 90. Stock internals for now but which seems to be the carb of choice for most of you guys. Going with a keihin 28 but undecided on the pe or pwk. I have always run pwk carbs over the years but dont know if i will see an advantage on the pwk over the pe. Looking to get one next week so any info would be appreciated.

Kinda depends on your jetting skill level. The PE is easier to keep jetting in tune. The PWK can be finicky.

pwk
like them so much that we have 21 - 28mm in single increments
makes jetting much easier our 70 loves a 25mm !

I have no problem jetting just will need a baseline starting point so I don't have to buy more jets than I really need. Saw on the g force site they advertise a "racing" needle for the pwk. What model/number are they?

pwk or a stage 6 which is a pwk knock-off.

Pwk not the stage 6

If you get a genuine Keihen PWK carb, the needle will be right.
If you get a Stage 6, Motoforce or other PWK knock off, you need to get the leaner (larger diameter) #JJH needle. Those replica carbs have needles in there that are too rich because they are set up for street driving on a scooter. Also the Keihen comes without the "power jet" making tuning simpler.

So how do you tell if you have a genuine Keihin PWK carb? My sons carb says PWK on it and that's it. He has a DRR 70. What would be a good base line starting point on jetting or which jets would you recommend I keep in the tool box as spares? New to this stuff lol.

The Genuine Keihin PWK is called "Airstyker" it is a D Slide carb and available in a 28mm. G Force and Hot Quads among others have these in stock.
We have used these carbs exclusively for the past three years on our race 90's on Haggerty intakes and they are ridiculously easy to tune and run after you are familiar with them.

We run in the woods so there is no need for the larger diameters. In fact they have advantages in the torque department

We found these to be more durable and accurate than the knock off versions

it all depends on where you need the power. round slide carbs(PE) are for bottom to mid end power. PWK (D slide) carbs are for mid to high rpm power. So depending on you current motor set up and type tracks you run will depend on the carb needed. I would stick with name brand kehin carbs lot better quality and hold up the longest.
hope this helps
