need help

My buddy has a 98 banshee with fmf pipes and when he just taps the throttle it will go wide open stay like that then eventually stop..I've never had that problem with mine so I have no idea what the problem is..any help will be appreciated

Air leak somewhere usally between cylinder and carb but also can be a base gasket.
