adjust 250x decompression cable?

i dont think the auto decomp is workin correctly on my girls 88 250x....its pretty hard to kick i think (im used to my 450) so im not positive on how easy it should be.....just doesnt feel smooth, it kicks back sometimes and she cant realy start it annymore although she is tiny....it fires right up when i give it a good kick.....any adivce on how to tinker with it............on a side note do they make electric starter kits for those?

I still have a shop manual from when i had a 250x. It says to adjust the decompressor after you adjust the valves. With the engine at top dead center on the compression stroke, the free play at the tip of the decompressor shaft arm should be 1-2 mm(.04-.08 inch). To adjust, loosen the locknut and turn the adjust nut until you obtain the correct amount of free play. Tighten the locknut and recheck the free play adjustment.
