looks good may have to look into this as a winter hobby in the near future. how hard are the blanks to seal.

I use old latex paint I have laying around. I cut my blanks into blocks about 2 foot square, making sure I cut the pith out and paint them with the old paint on all sides. You can cut them in smaller pieces but make sure you cut them a bit oversized so you can cut off any cracks that may appear. Then a store them in my shed till they dry out and are ready for turning. I cut the block down to the size I want to work with after it is dry. You can buy a wood sealer but using paint works well too. Some use wax but I don’t use it. I may start using wax on some smaller blanks by dipping them when there green. The draw back with using paint is you can’t see the wood or how the grain is running.

It’s a lot of fun to see what you can come up with. I have no experience with turning so if I can do it so can you. The key is letting the wood be what it wants to be. I may start out with something in mind but sometimes the wood says otherwise.lol

Pappy does some awesome turnings and make some nice stuff. I’m not anywhere near his level but it’s not as hard as it looks. All my designs are random and I just make it up as I go.

This one was going to be a bowl but it wanted to be an egg instead.lol
