What is everyone's opinion on a cam. I was looking at either a stage 2 or stage 3 cam for my 440. Can just the cam be done or do I need to replace other things linked to the cam while I'm in it? And is there anyway to tell if the cam has been replaced I got the fourwheeler after it had been built so I'm still in the dark about some of the stuff. Maybe I should tear it down and see and then order my stuff?

yes tear if apart an see what you have first. i ran in to this problem when ordering bearings for my rear axle. i didnt tear it apart and i got singal rollers just to find out i had a double roller barring carrier.

Thats what I was thinking. I had the same problem. Cost me as much as my double bearings to send back my wrong ones almost

Dont buy a stage 3, its more of a stroker cam.

Stage 2 is the way to go, thats what I run and it makes a bigg difference in the way it runs.

Did you replace that or all the other stuff internally with it.

I had a 440 and valves done before I cam'd it, I didnt replace anything other then the cam when I switched it out.

Generally, a stage 1 is for non bored motors, stage 2 is for modded motors with or without bores and stage 3 is specifically designed for strokers.

The cams are usable with all stock hardware.

stage 2 cam is an all around cam, I find it works best on almost anything.

look for ebay seller apex racing, jeff sells quality stuff cheap. Ive bought numerous items from him. he has the cheapest hotcams on ebay I think.

while doing a cam swap it wouldn't hurt a bit to put in a new timing chain while its tore down. a crf450 timing chain would be good insurance for the motor.

I've found with my 11:1 440 the stage 2 and 3 have the same low end to mid range but the stage 3 has much more on the top.

I duno about all that. Since i have upgraded my old stock springs to new kibble whites. Bike has alot more mid range then before( maybe i was floating the valves early in the rpm band before the switch). I beat on alot of bikes in the mid and esp top end more then before. I orig said I would do a stg 2 if I did it again but that was before new springs. I have beat piped ect 450's piped 700 raps, 2 mild 250R's, piped banshee's ect. Either a stg 2 or 3 will work great with a 440 bike. Just my op though, but a few guys that rode it before i did the springs asked me what I have done since because the bike feels that much better not knowing I did springs. Yah sounds BS but I chit you not.

I not a big fan of the Hot Cams. I just ordered a TC racing 926 grind cam. Only thing with TC is you have to send in your core and 200.00 plus shipping. He only takes checks. But you'll have an awesome cam! I never had Web cams but they seem to be decent.
