I remember walking to junior high listening to "License to Ill" in my walkman. (That I wasn't supposed to take to school! haha) Was always a rock n roll guy, but I liked the Beastie's. I didn't know he had cancer either. RIP MCA.

The Beastie boys and Tone Loc were the first rappers I would even listen to. It had nothing to do with skin color or that I was into Rock but I just couldn't take the early rap, early rap was just that it was rap it wasn't music (to me anyway) and groups like Public Enemy did little (imho) to help bridge the gap. But groups like The Beastie Boys helped to pave the way for many other like Eminem for one. I won't blame them for Vanialla Ice though. :D

Seriously tho, they were the first real rappers. They did bridge the gap and make rap mainstream. Todays "rap" isnt rap at all but idiots singing about ho's and whatnot to the sound of a guy who can only churn out bass on a turntable.

Anyways, I like them and thats all that matters in the end I guess.
