Okay yesterday i put on a HMF full competition series exhaust with a little help from buddies. When i started her up there was loud ticking and oil burning from the head of the bike. They told me that it i needed to put a copper gasket on the headers so it will fit right on the head and not leak oil. Just need answers from other riders. Oh btw the pipe sounds amazing!

There are two copper crush gaskets that go into the head and it seals your exhaust, for no air leaks.

You shouldnt have oil coming out anywhere frim your head.

Could be bad valve seals is why you have oil coming from your head, but those crush gaskets arent oil seals, they just seal the exhaust for air leaks.

Ok, but still you shouldnt have ANY oil coming from your header?

Could you elaborate on that?

^^2X Did you just put on the exhaust or did you do any other work on it?

All i did was take off my stock headers and my scorpion exhaust (came with the bike) and put the hmf header and comp exhaust tightened the bolts and it was rattling and smoking from the headers where they connected to the head. One of my friends said that i need the copper gasket so it will stock leaking.

If the header was smoking a little, it could just be due to some oil getting on the header, or the grease from your hands will even make them smoke for about 5-10 mins.

However if your burning oil out of an exhaust port, you have some valve sealing issues.

Are u sure its not the new pipe making a weird smell. most new exhausts smell kinna funny when u first put em on, and fire it up.

No oil should be coming out the exhaust port PERIOD. If so then the head is prob scrap. But if it is just from the pipe being dirty, it should stop.

Either oils coming out the exhaust ports or the rocker cover or head/cylinder isnt sealing properly. You need to figure out where the oils coming from.

oh boy that's not good...... I personally would not even ride it until I figured out exactly where the oil was coming from....I suggest you stop listening to your buddy too since those gaskets have nothing to do with oil and only seal it from air.

you have valve leakage or the start of blow by....you head is not scrap  you need to pull the motor apart and have freash seats cut and possible new valves, guides, seals. or could be pistion rings going.
