Been thinking about getting an 8 plate clutch kit. I've found a few kits, GT Thunder, Curtis Sparks Racing, Duncan Racing and Hisnon Racing. The GT Thunder kit is $213, Sparks kit is only $140, Duncan kit is $165 and the Hinson kit is $225. Hinson only sells the fibers on their site for $90, idk why they don't sell the 8 plate kit. The kit in the link is on ebay. So just for that reason I'm probably going to go with the Sparks kit. Is there a reason the GT Thunder kit is so pricey? And does anyone know of any other good 8 plate kits? Thanks!

I have the GTT kit and have been quite happy. Im pretty sure the steels are stock EX and the fibers are from a 250r iirc.

The reason its more is b/c you get a new pressure plate thats machined for the steels and fibers. The others dont have that.

FYI: On ebay if you search the part you will find Laz is selling them and you can make an offer. i picked mine up for 190.

quadparts111 is his name BTW, and thank you CJM for telling us that, that was Laz. I didnt know, i just thought it was someone who carried GTT products.

Just found my full suspension setup for $900 which saves me over $100, when i thought i had to buy it all seperate.

The Curtis Sparks kit uses 250R fibers and steels and will fit right in to your stock 400EX clutch or one with Hinson clutch components. The Sparks kit is going to be the best bang for your buck. The compromise with the Sparks kit is you are still using stock cast aluminum clutch parts which are a lot more prone to wear.

The Hinson kit on Ebay you linked above looks like the same thing as the Sparks kit. It's not a "true" Hinson 8 plate clutch. If you want to put together a real deal Hinson 8 plate clutch, you need to purchase the Hinson clutch basket, pressure plate (comes with springs), and inner hub. The Hinson parts can accept 250R fibers and steels to create an 8 plate setup. This option is obviously much more expensive, but you will not find a more durable or high quality clutch setup.

Here's my Hinson 8 plate clutch with OEM Honda 250R fibers/steels.

Yea, that looks sweet as hell man. I think I'm gonna go to with the Sparks kit. I'm not looking to dump a bunch of money into the clutch (inner hub, pressure plate, and basket) since my motor isn't built to the hilt, just want something that grabs a little bit better than stock and lasts a little longer too. I think I'm going to pick up a Hinson quick change clutch cover too.

Is it ok to use the Hinson clutch basket with a stock pressure plate and stuff?

I'm pretty sure you can. If you were to use it this way I think you would have to use the thicker 400EX clutch plates in a 7 plate configuration. It would be a good idea to check with Hinson to confirm that though.

I don't think you'll be disappointed, i've heard of a bunch of people in the past on this site running that clutch who were satisfied. You don't hear about many people running them nowadays though.
