hey everyone i was wondring if u culd help me out
i just pulled the clutch cover side off my 400 so i could get a broken bolt out and everything came off and went back toghter smoothly and after i got it all toghter i took it for a spin and everything was fine i let it sit for about an hour or 2 and when i started to ride it again everytime id get on the gas and go full bore when id hit 3rd gear its seems to jerk like the clutch is activating but all of a sudden it does fine
it only happens in 3rd when i lay on the throttle and get into the mid range of 3rd gear
now if i ease into 3rd it doesnt do it
any ideas

Sounds like you might need to adjust the clutch cable a bit. It happening in 3rd gear makes no sense tho.

FWIW It sounds as if the clutch is slipping. Maybe its just coincidence you had the case off.

Same exact thing happened to me. It ended up being a few teeth broke off the gear inside the tranny. It only happened in 3rd gear, it jerked when I got into it but if I eased into it, it would be fine. I thought it had something to do with the clutch as well, but it progressed to get worse and now I cant put it in 3rd gear at all.

I never realized that the gears in the 400ex's were that bad? I've got my engine in a billion pieces right now because 2nd gear decided to break into three pieces. Mine is a 2008, so is this a problem with the newer 400's?
