I just bought an '05 400EX. A friend who rides Kawaspankme's told me to get a 'Engine Case Saver'.
This is a guard that protects the super expensive and hard to replace Engine case in the event the bike spits the chain off.
The 05' TRX400EX already has one on from the factory.
However, when I looked on ebay I found a bunch of billet case savers for the Honda.
So my question is, 'How good is the 'stock' Honda case saver'?
Should I invest in more insurance (billit) to protect the engine

i always run a moose.. several of my pro friends have told me to run moose so i have.... but never had a chain derail while using a stock guard so idk how they hold up

I have a pro design billet one, next time Im buying a poly one.

The poly one will work better b/c it can absorb the impact better than the billet. Then again if your chains adjusted right and in good shape it shouldnt ever come off.

Be warned it will require some grinding for it to clear a 15t front sprocket if you have one. It will only clear up to a 14t without modifying it. Just for future reference if you decide to get a 15t. Sounds like you have stock 14t front though.

Polly guards are the only functional protection upgrade over the stock guard/cover combo but aren't very pretty. Most Metal aftermarket offer the same protection as stock but only offer more bling.

Then 'WE' did good and orderd a poly/by moose racing.
It was double the price of some of the 'bling' billit guards.
