Project R underway

I bought this 86 250r in august, 2002. He wanted $2,500 for it but I got it for $2,100. It was quite ugly when I bought it. Here is what it looked like the day I brought it home...

I got the frame guessested by BWR...

My new parts include:
Laeger +2+1 aarms freshly powdercoated by PPC. Elka tripple rate comp. & rebound adj. w/ rezzy, red steel braided brake lines, Tag X5 cr-high bars, new rear shock. I have champion beadlocks with 18inch turftammers on order and radials on .190s will soon be on order. Im just waiting to get all my parts back from Pappy so I can put it back togather.

it looks to me as a ronald mcdonald quad when i first bought it. i didnt care what it looked like because i planed on rebuilding it anyway... it was too mint when i bought it. had blown rear shock, broken off cylinder stud, and misc bolts missing. nothing too major :ermm:

motor is bored .80 (261cc's) it has a wiseco piston, and its ported. all im doing right now is cr gaskets. when i get more cash i plan on getting reeds. and a new carb.

actually it only costed $20 to ship my 400ex frame to pappy thru ups

nah i just put it on the motor cause my top end isnt on. im waiting on head gaskets, the only reason i took it off is to get a broken stud redrilled... (thanks racerX's old man;) )

That's great to hear too many handouts to kids nowadays. My little brother & sisters will not ride their bicycles to work 1/2mile away. Makes me sick, when I used ride 12miles round trip & never even thought about asking for a ride. I was happy to be wild, free & self sufficient... I bought my own 250r when I was 18 although I wasn't involved with enthusiasts like I am now & didn't have the foresight to keep it. Best of luck w/your project.

i used to work 30-35 hours a week. and i was only 15 at the time and going to highschool. my hours got cut down a bit cause we havent been busy. i work at a shoe store:confused2
i paid for my 250r with all my own money by selling my 300ex (which i took out a loan for and paid for) and ive been buying all my parts with my paychecks.

Like I said congratulations, you will feel the self gratification & self respect when your project is done. I remember how great I felt after pimping out an S-10 my dad sold to me with my summer construction job & nights at the grocery store, and that's right I said "SOLD" to me. Not to mention that you will have earned the respect of your contemporaries instead of having them view you as a whining, sniveling, brat. I think there is a lesson hidden somewhere in the pages of this post, lmao. Anyways to sum it up, great job!

i used to own a 300ex myself. i was in the same situation as you. i wanted a bigger/better quad but i was paying off the note on the 300ex and coulnt afford it. i took on a project (1992 suzuki quadracer, paid $600 for it) ...fixed it up, and sold it for $2,100. i took that money to pay off my 300ex note, so now i dont have any bills to pay. i then sold the 300ex for $3,350 and bought my 250r for $2,100 and put the rest of the money into it.

just keep working hard and things will come-to ;)
